With a lightweight, portable speaker strapped to their back, each Flock participant plays a role in performing a piece of specially commissioned music. The music is mixed to ten channels and each of these is played through one of the backpack speakers – the experience is then in the hands, or on the backs, of the participants.

 

As the speakers are completely portable, this shoal of music can weave through a crowd or focus on one space – immersing the audience in sound. These walkabouts could be choreographed, an element of a giant puppet parade or simply full of would-be instigators ready to sign up for a new experience.

 

Every performance is an interaction of music, participants and audience.
